Well, I am going to be 31 in 2 months and I still feel like I do not know how to honestly answer that question.

You would think that a girl who has had more jobs, in many different fields, than you can count on two hands (and if I am really honest you can probably throw in the feet) would be able to narrow it down a bit. Like I said though, you would think.

Dental assisting...went to school for it, hated it. Nursing, yep, been there done that, and I just can not seem to get past the whole people dying thing. Plus, I really, really like old people so I look at them and think of them all as my grandparent and it just hurts my heart. What else have I done....in the real estate realm I was a leasing consultant and I loved that job but my current location does not leave me any options in this arena and after having been out of the biz for 4 years you could say I do not remember a darn thing so scratch that. Retail, well that was a trip in hell that I would rather not take again. The job I happened to like the most was as a barista/bagel slinger back in ye olde high school days. Sadly enough it was the longest job I kept and the most fun.

I had been told by a highly educated man that I should purchase the book "What color is your parachute?" Apparently after reading this quite lengthy book and taking a gagillion quizzes it tells me my color and what I am meant to do with my life. Well if I would ave known that I would have skipped the past 2 degrees (currently on my 3rd....silly me, school is for those that know what they want to do with their lives!) and just bought the book straight out of high school.

I do not have much faith however in a book telling me what I should be when I grow up, if I grow up. I have taken a few (ok, a gagillion) career quizzes, and they all come out the same. I should be a teacher, writer, librarian, curator, archivist, lawyer, artist and all of those jobs that entail either a degree in which takes more money than I have or talent that I can not just drum up out of nowhere.

The funny thing is I landed a gig in the Barista world once again, but I am not sure if I want to take a trip down memory lane. Yes, it was cool and fun when I was 18-22, but at 31 and as a full-time student trying to find myself (aka sitting on the couch and whining on Facebook about how I can not seem to find myself) I am not sure I have the time for said trip. Or, maybe I just feel like a failure. Most likely the whole failure thing has a bit of truth tied to it but you can just forget I said that.

Either way I need to make a choice. Right now my degree is cool. Library Science and Media. Yeah I know, what the heck do you do with that? Well, I can be a librarian. Which may sound totally horrible and granny like to some but I love books almost as much as I love my dogs, oh, and of course my husband, so I figured it was a baby step in the correct direction this time. I can become a research assistant or who knows venture into writing. I just wish I had that aha feeling. That this is me and this is my plan and look, here is my parachute and it's color is.......

But I don't know what color my parachute is, or if I even have one. I am kind of just floating, suspended from a wire waiting to catch the next plane and then land safely on my feet. What fun is it to know ahead of time exactly where life will take you?

I just need to figure out if it is taking me to the coffee shop or not as a consumer or employee in the mean time.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;
